We love sharing good news stories from our Charitable Surgery Programme

Sometimes special events occur which give members of the Braemar Charitable Trust the certainty that what they are doing to improve the health of the community really is making a difference.

The trust along with Braemar Hospital medical specialists, perform a growing number of charitable surgeries each year. These surgeries are greatly appreciated by patients and can be life changing.

Here is just one example. For reasons of privacy, the name of the patient and their family member has been changed.

In late 2021, a mother, Moana, and her young daughter Lea, presented to the Waikato Hospital Emergency Department. Lea was suffering from a severe pain, but the waiting list for both an initial assessment and any dental treatment, was long.

The severity of Lea’s pain led Moana to seek the assistance of Pediatric Dentist Katie Ayers who was able to refer Lea to the Braemar Charitable Surgery Program. Without the means to pay for private treatment and meeting the Trusts charitable funding criteria, Lea was booked in for a consultation immediately.

The charitable surgery, which required the removal and restoration of several teeth under general anesthetic, was scheduled for the following week.

Moana shared with us how grateful she was that the both the Trust and the Pediatric Dentist were able to assist her daughter and relieve her of the considerable pain she had been in.
