Health offerings at Waikato receive a boost thanks to Braemar Charitable Trust

The Braemar Charitable Trust are really excited to announce that students studying health at the University of Waikato will be able to apply for several new scholarships from this year.

Starting in 2021, we will fund several new scholarships at the University: two undergraduate scholarships in Health and Nursing, two Summer Research Scholarships, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) scholarship for a candidate working in health leadership.
University of Waikato Vice-Chancellor Professor Neil Quigley says Braemar Charitable Trust’s support is crucial for enabling the partnerships needed to progress the region’s health agenda, and will support students to help address some of the key issues facing the sector.
“The University is very much aligned with Braemar Charitable Trust’s commitment to making a difference to the health of people in our communities, specifically through reducing health inequities and improving access to services for vulnerable people.
“We are extremely grateful for the Trust’s support for health students, particularly as it will help address three key areas of significant need – health - including mental health - nursing, and health leadership.”
The Trust’s support comes as the University welcomed its first intake of students into the new Bachelor of Nursing programme this month, and as recently published findings from two University of Waikato health research projects identified the critical role of primary care in improving health outcomes.
Chris O’Meeghan, chair of Braemar Charitable Trust, says the Trust is excited to partner with the University to grow health capability in the Waikato region and encourage and support great students into the health sector.
“Alongside our commitment to improving health outcomes for people in our region, we are also passionate about creating partnerships and collaborations so we can do more together for the region’s health. We believe strongly that partnerships such as this will build greater capability in the wider health sector now, and well into the future.”
